Can YOU
Help These Children?

Projek "Sinar Hati"
( Bright Hearts Project )

Dare to create a difference by having
the people we touch be all they can be.

These are some of the children of the Orang Asli village in Pulau Indah, a small island located off the West Coast of Malaysia. The villagers are a group of the indigenous people of Malaysia comprising about 130 people who were originally sea gypsies and still survive to a certain degree by living off their catch. They have been resettled by the government and now survive on a subsidy of just RM350 a month. About half the villagers are
children.

Owing to development on the island, the harvest from the sea has been reduced. They now depent great on the government which has allocated an acre of land of oil palms. The harvest from the oil palms help to supplement their income. The younger generation are also being employed by contractors and the port on the island. Some of them are still depending on the sea for their living as fishermen and trapping for crabs which they sell for cash.

The state of their village is appalling - broken bridges, a run down school-house, toilets in disrepair, stagnant river and rubbish everywhere and an access road which is frequently impassable due to heavy rain. The villagers are desperately in need of an improved infrastructure, sanitation, electricity, health care, better educational facilities as well as essentials such as clothes and shoes.

Thus, a small group of people who call themselves LP 43 has chosen to do this community service project to make a difference in the lives of these people.

A fund raising effort is now underway to support the Orang Asli villagers in general and the children in particular, specifically:

· To rebuild, repair or construct the school, its library and
playground, toilet facilities, plus the bridges and the access road

· To provide an electricity generator

· To clean the surrounding areas, in particular removing rubbish
and clearing the river

· To provide health and dental checks and educate the villagers in maintaining their surroundings and in basic hygiene and sanitation.

· To provide clothes, books, toys, utensils, bedding etc.

Whilst much of the work is being undertaken by local volunteers in Malaysia, materials and professional construction workers are required for the key building projects and for the installation of the generator.

Your support for the above project would make a real difference to the villagers and go a long way to providing these children in particular with a better life. Even a small donation would be most gratefully received.
